Member of Commission B of the Jakarta City Council, Muhammad Taufik Zoelkifli (MTZ) welcomed the steps taken by the Jakarta Transportation Agency in controlling a number of illegal parking locations in the capital.
That's the right thing to do
According to MTZ, this activity is necessary to reduce traffic jams that are often caused by haphazardly parked vehicles, including those used by a number of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers when waiting for passengers.
South Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency Controls Illegal Parking in Setiabudi"The Transportation Agency is taking action against illegal parking, that's the right thing to do," he said, Monday (7/6).
He reminded everyone that enforcement must be carried out humanely. He emphasized that motorcycle taxi drivers still need to be provided with adequate parking or waiting areas to prevent them from using the roadside.
"Still provide space or parking space for ojol drivers to wait for passengers," he added.
In addition to illegal parking on the streets, he also asked the Transportation Agency together with the Parking UPT to increase supervision of off-street parking management such as in buildings, shopping centers, cinemas, and other business locations.
This step is crucial for optimizing regional tax revenue. "This is related to Bapenda and taxes," he explained.
He hopes that the Transportation Agency can work together with the Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) so that large-capacity parking managers pay taxes according to the number of vehicles entering.
MTZ revealed that the findings of the Jakarta City Council's Special Committee on Parking showed that there were still parking practices that were suspected of involving non-compliance with tax payments by a number of parking operators.
"Using a parking operator, but the tax does not match the number of vehicles entering," he admitted.
