Nyi Ageng Serang Jakarta Library Officially Opens as City's Newest Literacy Hub

Governor Pramono Anung officially reopened the Nyi Ageng Serang Jakarta Library on Tuesday (7/7). After a four-year hiatus caused by the pandemic and operational challenges, this vital public resource in South Jakarta is once again ready to serve the community.

"Today, I declare the Nyi Ageng Serang Jakarta Library officially inaugurated," he stated.

He envisions this 4,000-square-meter facility, boasting 55,000 titles, becoming a vibrant new intellectual sanctuary where Jakarta’s younger generation can deepen their love for reading and learning.

He looks forward to an ever-expanding collection that empowers students at every level.

"I believe this will be the new 'it' place for the younger generation to explore, read, gather, and collaborate," Pramono stated.

Tech-ready with multimedia booths and catalog kiosks, it also provides seamless services including circulation, research assistance, and library guidance.

With the library now open, the Governor hopes it will become a cornerstone of learning for the city and beyond.

"Our doors are wide open for everyone—whether from Jakarta or other regions—to make the most of this space," he explained.

National Library Head, Endang Aminudin Aziz, praised the facility as a fresh cornerstone for the city's literacy efforts.

"I am certain that residents across Greater Jakarta will truly benefit from this fantastic resource provided by the Jakarta government," he noted.

It also stands as a guardian of local wisdom, playing a key role in gathering and preserving printed and recorded works to safeguard the city's rich intellectual and cultural history.

Its shelves boast an impressive array of titles, from general and reference collections to legal deposits and exclusive Jakarta-focused archives.
