Educational and Entertainment Tourism Boosts Tourist Visits to Kota Tua

The number of tourist visits to Jakarta's Kota Tua area during the school holidays showed a positive trend. According to data from the Kota Tua Management Unit (UPK Kota Tua), from June 27 to July 5, 2026, the total number of visits reached 99,663, consisting of 97,700 domestic tourists and 1,963 international tourists.

This increase was driven by various tourism, educational, and entertainment activities presented to the public during the school holiday period as well as welcoming the 499th Jakarta Anniversary.

The Head of UPK Kota Tua, Denny Aputra, said that this figure is the accumulation of visits to the entire Kota Tua area, including museums and various supporting tourism facilities within it.

"It could reach 200 thousand until this week," he said, Tuesday (7/7).

Based on this data, the temporary peak in visits occurred on Saturday, July 4, 2026, with a total of 14,773 visitors. Previously, Sunday, June 28, 2026, also recorded a high number of visits, with 13,984 people.

"The increase is around 30 to 40 percent for weekdays, while Saturdays and Sundays are around 20 to 30 percent," he added.

Besides visiting the museums that are icons of the area, visitors can also try various entertainment rides such as haunted houses and 3D museums.

"We will also be working with the community to present PUBG x Naruto," he continued.

Visitors can also enjoy Lighting Art installations, take part in pottery classes, tour around on bicycles, visit the Wayang Museum, and capture moments at various iconic points in the area.

For those looking for affordable tourism, Kota Tua also offers a number of free facilities and programs. These include free guided walking tours, a tour bus on the Jakarta History route, a Tourist Information Center (TIC), a lactation room, and refillable drinking water facilities at several locations in the area.

Several museums also offer free entry to certain groups. KJP and KIP card holders can visit the Jakarta History Museum, Maritime Museum, Wayang Museum, and Fine Arts and Ceramics Museum free of charge.

Meanwhile, the Bank Indonesia Museum provides free access for students, children under 12 years of age, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

Kota Tua now also features two new photo booth spots namely the Lighting Art Photobooth and the Posetopia Photobooth. Priced at Rp35,000 per session, operating daily.

"It is hoped that the Kota Tua area will continue to be an attractive historical, cultural and recreational tourist destination for the public during school holidays and other special occasions," he stated.
