Eight Jumbo Waste Biopores Created in Cipulir

Efforts to manage environmentally-based waste by building eight large biopore holes at a number of strategic points continue to be intensified in Cipulir Urban Village, Kebayoran Lama District, South Jakarta.

Increase public awareness

Head Section of Economy and Development of Cipulir Urban Village, Muhammad Tahjuddin Rosyi said the construction of jumbo biopores was carried out as a solution to reduce the volume of organic waste while increasing public awareness in managing waste from home.

"We carry out various waste management efforts, one of which is by building jumbo biopores and holding massive socialization to the community," he said, Wednesday (7/8).

He explained the eight jumbo biopore holes are spread across four locations, two units each in the Cipulir Urban Village Literasi Park, RW 09 Nutrition House, RW 09 PKK Hati Park, and Mangga Ulir RPTRA.

The making process involves Public Infrastructure and Facilities Management (PPSU) officers together with residents as a form of collaboration between the government and the community in creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

"The materials came from assistance from the South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency and some were the result of community self-help," he explained.

Jumbo biopores that function as composters are expected to make it easier for residents to process organic waste without having to dispose of it in landfills.

"We will continue to expand biopore construction in other locations. We have also encouraged residents to build biopores independently," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, one of the local residents, Irfan appreciated the consistency in educating the public about the importance of sorting and processing waste.

"Hopefully this effort will have a positive impact on the environment and increase public awareness," he hoped.
