Jakarta’s Jalahoaks Goes Global! Snags Champion Title at WSIS Prizes 2026

Jakarta’s very own anti-hoax platform, Jalahoaks, has officially gone global! Developed by the Jakarta Communications, Informatics, and Statistics Agency (Diskominfotik), Jalahoaks snagged the 'Champion' title at the prestigious WSIS Prizes 2026 for the Ethical Dimensions of Information Society category.

This award is a huge motivation for us to keep serving the community

This award is a major international shout-out to Jakarta’s commitment to keeping our digital world healthy, safe, and trusted through legit fact-checking and next-level digital literacy.

Jalahoaks stands tall as one of only three Indonesian initiatives to bring home this prestigious global award. Joining the ranks with two other winners from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), Jakarta has officially put Indonesia on the map.

The award was presented by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)—a specialized UN agency—as a huge 'thank you' for Jalahoaks’ work in boosting digital ethics through top-tier fact-checking and literacy programs.

Jakarta Communications, Informatics, and Statistics Agency Head, Marulina Dewi shared that Jalahoaks was launched in 2020 as a direct response to the surge of fake news online. Over the years, it has evolved into the city’s most trusted reference for fact-checking.

"This award is a huge motivation for us to keep serving the community. But fighting hoaxes isn't a solo mission. It takes a whole squad—government, media, academics, and the public—to keep our digital space healthy and legit," she expressed, Tuesday (7/14).

She also gave a huge shout-out to the people of Jakarta for consistently using and supporting Jalahoaks as their go-to fact-checker.

"We want to say a massive thank you to everyone, especially Jakartans, who continue to stand with us and collaborate to kick hoaxes out of our digital space," she expressed warmly.

The prestigious WSIS Prizes 2026 ceremony went down in Geneva, Switzerland, on July 9–10. Accepting the Champion award on behalf of Jalahoaks was Suharti, Secretary General of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

Marulina sent a special shout-out to the Ministry team: "A huge thank you to Mrs. Suharti and the Kemendikdasmen family for representing us on the world stage in Geneva. We truly appreciate the support".

Notably, the WSIS Prizes celebrates the best in tech innovation that actually changes lives. Hosted by the ITU, this annual award saw 1,595 global proposals battle it out in 2026. Only 360 programs reached the nomination stage, and Jalahoaks was one of the few to stand out for its commitment to ethical information.
