Temporary Crosswalk to Be Built at Tendean Pedestrian Bridge Site

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has instructed the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) to coordinate with the Transportation Ministry to obtain permits for a temporary crosswalk near the site of the former Tendean Pedestrian Bridge (JPO).

This cannot be delayed. It is a highly strategic pedestrian bridge

The temporary crosswalk will replace the pedestrian bridge, which was demolished after being struck by a truck carrying heavy equipment. Pramono said it would serve as a short-term solution to ensure residents can cross the road safely while a new pedestrian bridge is built.

"Building a new pedestrian bridge will take time. But I have also instructed officials to begin construction of a new bridge as soon as possible," Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (7/17).

He explained that the new Tendean Pedestrian Bridge could be financed through various schemes, including the city budget, creative financing, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and naming rights. A funding decision is expected next week.

"This cannot be delayed. It is a highly strategic pedestrian bridge," he emphasized.

Pramono also addressed an incident involving a concrete mixer truck that became stuck beneath Matraman Bridge in East Jakarta early on Thursday (7/16). Based on the information he received, the driver was suspected of using a mobile phone while driving, causing the accident.

He said he had instructed the Jakarta Transportation Agency to coordinate with the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) to take firm action against similar violations.

"I have instructed the Transportation Agency to coordinate with Kakorlantas. Anyone who commits such violations must face the strictest possible sanctions. If necessary, their license should be revoked," he asserted.

Pramono added that transport companies would also face sanctions if they failed to ensure their drivers complied with traffic regulations.

"We cannot allow Jakarta to be disrupted by incidents like this," he highlighted.
