Massive Cube Dikes Deployed to Protect Lancang Island from Tidal Floods

The Seribu Islands Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) is currently repairing and constructing massive cube dikes on Lancang Island, Pari Island Urban Village, South Seribu Islands Sub-district.

Repairs began last week, covering a total length of 100 meters

The work is focused on two key sites: the western side of Lancang Island (RT 03/03) and the Gusung Klanceng Beach area (RT 01/01).

According to Wahyu, the first location suffered damage from tidal waves late last month.

City Government to Construct Dike in Anticipating Tidal Wave

"Repairs began last week, covering a total length of 100 meters," said Beach Section Head, Wahyu Maulana, Monday (7/20).

He explained that 16 personnel were deployed to realign the massive cubes that had shifted and been damaged by the battering waves.

"To prevent a recurrence, the repaired dike is now equipped with additional reinforcements in the form of inter-cube binders. This ensures a much sturdier structure, built to withstand the force of the waves," he explained.

The project also includes the installation of a new 300-meter stretch of massive cube dikes at Gusung Klanceng Beach, further fortifying Lancang Island’s coastal defenses.

"We hope this dike functions optimally as a breakwater, safeguarding the island so that community activities can continue as usual, even during extreme weather," he added.

This project received appreciation from one of the locals from RW 03, Lancang Island, Ismail.

He hoped the dike wouldbprovide peace of mind for the community against the persistent threats of tidal flooding and coastal erosion.

"We fully support this initiative. The team’s performance has been excellent and efficient. Hope once completed, our coastline and residential areas will be significantly better protected," he concluded.
