House Fire in Ceger Allegedly Triggered by LPG Leak

A fire engulfed four houses in a densely populated residential area on Jalan Nangka, RT 02/02, Ceger Urban Village, Cipayung District, East Jakarta, early Tuesday (7/21). The blaze, which broke out at around 4:58 AM, is believed to have been triggered by a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) leak from a stove being used for cooking.

Head Section of Operation for East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-agency, Abdul Wahid said residents and rented house residents attempted to extinguish the fire themselves. However, the rapid spread of the flames made it difficult to extinguish.

"After receiving the fire report, we immediately deployed 14 fire engines with 70 personnel to the location," he said, Tuesday (7/21).

Wahid explained that the extinguishing process began at around 5 AM and continued with the cooling process at 5:35 AM.

"The entire firefighting process was declared complete at 6:13 AM. There were no fatalities or injuries in the incident," he added.

Head of RT 02/02, Ceger Urban Village, Hendrawan stated of the four houses affected by the fire, three were rented. Four families with 15 people survived the fire.

"Currently they are taking temporary refuge in the homes of neighbors and relatives not far from the fire location," he stated.

Meanwhile, Head of Ceger Urban Village, Ahmad Syaifudin confirmed that he had submitted a request for assistance to the Social Services Sub-agency, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Baznas Bazis, and the East Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

"We have immediately requested assistance and hopefully it will be sent quickly to be distributed to fire survivors," he admitted.
