Restoring Defenses, Sabira Island’s Breached Seawall Gets Vital Fix

The Seribu Islands Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) is currently repairing a collapsed seawall on the west side of Sabira Island, Harapan Urban Village, North Seribu Islands Sub-district.

Thanks to the stronger seawall, we have peace of mind

Seribu Islands Water Resources Sub-agency Head, Frans Agustinus Siahaan stated, the repairs cover a 100-meter stretch across the RT 02 and 03 areas.

"The seawall collapsed due to heavy wave impact. Ten personnel have been deployed to the site," he confirmed, Monday (7/27).

According to him, the repair work has been underway since mid-July 2026. Personnel are working manually to restack stone materials and reinforce the structure, ensuring it is sturdy enough to withstand future wave impacts.

"Work progress has now reached 80%, and we aim for completion by the end of this week," he explained.

It is expected to bolster coastal protection and prevent abrasion that could threaten residential areas.

"We also conduct routine monitoring along the shoreline to ensure the seawall remains in top condition. This makes the coastal area safer, allowing residents to go about their daily activities with greater peace of mind," Frans added.

The work receives appreciation from RW 03 Chair, Harapan Island Urban Village, Muhammad Ali.

"Thanks to the stronger seawall, we have peace of mind. No more water encroaching on our homes when the waves get rough," he concluded
