Two Waste Transport Companies Penalized for Violations at Penjaringan Urban Forest

The Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency has taken firm action against two waste transport companies found to have violated waste management regulations in the Penjaringan Urban Forest area, North Jakarta.

The enforcement is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government's efforts to strengthen oversight and ensure compliance among service providers, businesses, and property managers that fail to manage waste in accordance with regulations.

Jakarta Environment Agency Head Dudi Gardesi Asikin stressed that the administration would not tolerate illegal waste disposal practices that damage the environment and burden the city's waste management system.

"We will continue strengthening oversight and taking firm action against every violation. Service providers and businesses must ensure that waste is collected, managed, and disposed of through the official waste management system," he said on Tuesday (7/28).

According to Dudi, enforcement is intended not only to deter violations but also to promote a more orderly, accountable, and sustainable waste management system in Jakarta.

"The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to improve waste management facilities and systems. However, businesses must also comply with the regulations instead of shifting the burden of waste management onto public spaces," he asserted.

Head of Monitoring and Law Enforcement of the Jakarta Environment Agency Helmy Zulhidayat said the first enforcement action was taken against CV TBB, after one of its waste trucks, bearing license plate B 9890 PDD, was caught dumping waste in the Penjaringan Urban Forest.

The case was followed up through a joint investigation involving the North Jakarta Environment Sub-agency, the Pejagalan Urban Village Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), the Penjaringan Sub-district Environment Unit, and local urban village and sub-district officials.

"Based on the investigation, the company was fined Rp10 million. The truck has also been impounded as collateral until the company fulfills its administrative obligations," he noted.

The Jakarta Environment Agency also imposed a Rp5 million administrative penalty on PT FJM for selling waste materials, including used drums and buckets, to an illegal scrapyard in the Penjaringan Urban Forest area.

Helmy warned that if the companies fail to comply with the sanctions or commit further violations, the Jakarta Provincial Government may impose additional penalties, including revoking their business licenses, in accordance with Regional Regulation No. 3/2013 and Governor Regulation No. 102/2021.
