The repair and raising of the Kamal River embankment on Jalan Kamal Muara, RW 01, Kamal Muara Urban Village, has been carried out by personnel from the Penjaringan District Water Resources (SDA) Task Force, North Jakarta, since last April. It is targeted for completion in August.
Progress has reached 80 percent
Head of Penjaringan Water Resources Unit, Pendi said the repair of the 325-meter embankment is a follow-up to a proposal from residents submitted through members of the Jakarta DPRD during recess.
Massive Cube Dikes Deployed to Protect Lancang Island from Tidal Floods"The previous condition of the embankment was almost parallel to the road surface so that water often overflowed and caused flooding during high tides or heavy rain," he said, Thursday (7/30).
Repairs are carried out by increasing the height of the embankment from 80 centimeters to 1.3 meters, as well as repairing the embankment walls which were starting to become porous to make them stronger.
"Repairs are being carried out by six Blue Troop personnel. Currently, progress has reached 80 percent and is targeted for completion in August," he added.
One of the local residents, Karim (55) stated overflowing water during tidal floods has often disrupted residents' activities.
"With the higher embankment, we'll be safer and more comfortable crossing. Hopefully, there won't be any more flooding in the future," he hoped.
