190 Male Cats in South Jakarta Sterilized

190 male cats were sterilized by the South Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-agency at the Ciganjur Fish Broodstock Center (BBI), Jagakarsa.

We did it directly in two districts

Head Section of the Animal Husbandry and Health of the Sub-agency, Irawati Harry Artharini said this male cat sterilization activity, which is a collaboration between PDHI Jakarta and Nestle Purina Indonesia, is aimed at residents of Jagakarsa and Mampang Prapatan.

"We did it directly in two districts. As a result, the number of cats sterilized was also very large," she said.

Irawati explained that this sterilization was aimed at controlling the cat population, including stray cats in residential areas, while also maintaining Jakarta's rabies-free status.

According to him, the uncontrolled growth of the cat population in Jakarta can also have various environmental impacts, including fecal pollution, property damage, and the potential spread of disease.

Azizah Gunawan, one of the pet owners, admitted she was happy that two stray cats that often stop by her house received free sterilization quotas from the sub-agency.

"This program is very beneficial for us and the sustainability of the animal population," she admitted.
