Two Pedestrian Bridges in Rasuna Said Serve Distinct Purposes

The presence of two adjacent pedestrian bridges in HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta has sparked public curiosity.

The Jakarta Bina Marga Agency clarified that despite the bridges are side-by-side, they are not interconnected. Each was built at a different time and serves a distinct purpose.

The first is an existing government-owned bridge, originally established as a public crossing facility.

Meanwhile, the second bridge is an integrated facility built later by LRT Jabodebek as part of an intermodal system connecting the LRT station with the Transjakarta bus stop.

While the original bridge previously served as direct access to the Transjakarta bus stop, that changed when the stop was relocated beneath the integrated LRT station.

Since the relocation, access to the bus stop is now channeled through the new LRT-built integration bridge rather than the original structure.

Data and Information Center Head, Siti Dinarwenny stated that the integrated bridge is not only for LRT and Transjakarta passengers transferring between modes, but is also open to the general public as a pedestrian crossing.

"The integrated bridge features an unpaid area, allowing everyone to use it to cross the street. It is also equipped with elevators to ensure accessibility, particularly for people with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women, and others in need of easier access," she expressed, Tuesday (8/4).

Regarding the proposal to link the two overpasses, she stated that such a plan would require a technical feasibility study by Jabodebek LRT, as the owner and operator of the integrated bridge.

However, current conditions present technical hurdles that make a connection unfeasible.

Wenny explained that there is a floor elevation difference of about 75 centimeters, while the horizontal gap between the two structures is only 60 centimeters.

"These conditions make it impossible to construct stairs or ramps that meet the necessary safety, security, comfort, and accessibility standards for users," she added.

She noted that the public still has the option to use either bridge based on their desired access points, even without a physical connection.

With only 50 meters separating the exit points of the two bridges, pedestrians can easily choose the facility that best suits their route.

The Bina Marga Agency encourages residents to utilize these crossings following their intended functions and to always prioritize safety.

"We urge the public to use the available crossing facilities and to always put safety first in their daily activities," she concluded.
