Two Island Schools Set for Total Renovation This August 2026

To enhance the quality of educational infrastructure in the archipelago, the Seribu Islands Education Sub-agency plans to carry out a total renovation of SDN Pulau Harapan 01 and 02 on Harapan Island, as well as SMPN Satu Atap 02 on Sebira Island, North Seribu Islands Sub-district.

The demolition and physical construction will begin this August

Seribu Island Education Sub-agency Head, Muhammad Thohari stated that the renovation aims to provide a safer, more comfortable, and more representative learning environment for students.

According to him, this project is the result of a survey conducted by the Seribu Islands Regency administration and proposals from residents submitted through their representatives.

"The demolition and physical construction will begin this August. Since the buildings on Sebira Island are in a single complex, the demolition will be conducted simultaneously," he expressed, Tuesday (8/4).

To ensure the project runs smoothly, the department has vacated the buildings and relocated all school inventory since last July. The work is being conducted by a third-party contractor and is targeted for completion next year.

"We hope the rehabilitation process stays on schedule to enhance the quality of educational infrastructure on these residential islands," he explained.

Meanwhile, SDN Pulau Harapan 02 and SMPN Satu Atap 02 Pulau Sebira Principal, Ispianah clarified that Teaching and Learning Activities (KBM) for students on Sebira Island have been temporarily moved to alternative locations to maintain a conducive environment.

"Since July 21, students have been studying at temporary sites. For both elementary and junior high levels, classes are being held in guest houses and mosque terraces," she added.

She detailed that there are currently 36 students from SMPN Satu Atap 02 and 63 from SDN Pulau Harapan 02. Additionally, 31 children from the local preschool unit (SPS) have been relocated to the neighborhood (RW) office.

In a different location, SDN Pulau Harapan 01 Pagi Vice Principal, Samsul Bahri welcomed the project's commencement. This total renovation is a milestone that the school and the local community have been anticipating for 16 years.

During the construction phase, 152 students from SDN Pulau Harapan 01 Pagi have been temporarily moved to the SDN Pulau Kelapa 01 Pagi building.

"After waiting for more than 16 years, this total renovation is finally being realized. It is our great hope to finally have a proper facility that supports the improvement of educational quality," he stated.
