This initiative aims to rejuvenate the heritage site through a fusion of culture and the creative economy. Not only will it provide a space for cultural expression, but it is also designed to drive economic growth for residents in the neighborhood.

North Jakarta’s Assistant for Administration and People's Welfare, Anita Permata Sari, highlighted Hexagon Market’s rich historical roots as the primary reason for its selection. Built in the 1920s, the structure has undergone a transformation, now serving as a hub where heritage meets the modern creative economy.

"Hexagon Market is a testament to the region's journey. We are breathing new life into this heritage site to create a fusion of culture and creative entrepreneurship," she expressed, Tuesday (8/11).

She went on to say that the event serves as a platform for cultural expression and is part of the celebrations for Indonesia's 81st Independence Day.

"Notably, this initiative is a cross-sector collaboration carried out without any specific budget allocation," she continued.

According to her, the event's success stems from the collective efforts of Regional Government Agencies (OPD) under the North Jakarta Mayor’s coordination, local communities, the Bahari Museum Management Unit, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) support from various partners, particularly Perumda Pasar Jaya.

"We invite the entire community to join the festivities with their families. Experience the delight of culinary treats under the North Jakarta night sky, accompanied by captivating cultural performances," she added.

North Jakarta Cultural Sub-agency Head, Dya Perwita Kusuma, noted that Hexagon Market's renewed function aims to integrate it into the wider Kota Tua tourism experience.

Under this projection, tourists visiting Kota Tua and the Bahari Museum can extend their trip to the Luar Batang Mosque before unwinding at Hexagon Market. The market will offer a variety of food stalls, souvenir shopping, and captivating cultural showcases.

"We're taking real action to breathe new life into the economic and cultural heartbeat of this heritage site. This move reflects Jakarta’s vision of becoming a Global City that continues to uphold and celebrate its cultural identity," he remarked.

Dya hoped that by maximizing public spaces as creative hubs, a lasting synergy between culture and the economy could be established.

"By utilizing as many public spaces as possible for artistic expression, we are taking a collective step toward ensuring a sustainable cultural legacy," she stated.
