Pram Hands Over Seribu Islands Transport to Transjakarta, Promising Lower Fares

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is handing over the oversight of ferry services between mainland Jakarta and the Seribu Islands to the city's transport operator, Transjakarta.

Transportation from mainland Jakarta to Seribu Islands will now be managed by Transjakarta,

The route was previously overseen by the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) and operated independently by local residents.

"I've decided that transportation from mainland Jakarta to Seribu Islands will now be managed by Transjakarta," Pramono announced at the Rorotan RDF Plant in North Jakarta, Tuesday (8/11).

Sabira Island Residents Hope for Better Sea Transport Under Transjakarta

He praised Transjakarta’s track record in the city's five municipalities, highlighting the consistent growth in passenger numbers as a key indicator of success.

"In the last month alone, ridership spiked by 14.99 percent," he remarked.

He added that this surge reflects deepening public trust in the company’s service quality. Given this success, he considers Transjakarta the most capable and efficient entity to take over the maritime routes to Seribu Islands.

For this reason, he considers Transjakarta better suited to handle the Seribu Islands routes more efficiently.

The handover process from the Transportation Agency is currently in the finalization stage, along with the drafting of new regulations.

"We are still refining the mechanism because it involves amending regional and governor-level regulations, as well as setting the new fares," Pramono added.

Nonetheless, the Governor assured the public that sea transport rates would become more economical under Transjakarta’s professional oversight.

"Fares will definitely be cheaper once they are managed professionally, mirroring the efficiency we see in Transjakarta’s current operations," he remarked.
