West Jakarta Discusses Strengthening Disaster Mitigation and Public Order

Personnel from the West Jakarta City Administration's Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and Community Protection Unit (Satlinmas) met on Tuesday (August 11) to discuss strengthening disaster mitigation and inter-agency synergy in maintaining regional order and security.

West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah commended the initiative, which was organized under the "Ngobras" (Quality Conversation) program. She expressed hope that the matters discussed would be implemented down to the level of the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and the Community Protection Unit (Satlinmas) at the district and urban village levels.

"Maintaining security requires coordination among all parties, especially those on the front lines," she said.

Iin cited the handling of issues at the Cengkareng U-turn as a success story of field personnel collaborating to maintain order. The area was successfully brought under control thanks to the synergy of the "four pillars"—the TNI (military), the National Police, the city government, and the community (represented by Satlinmas).

Regarding disaster management, Iin stated that her team has been carrying out flood mitigation efforts through the "Gerebek Lumpur" (mud dredging) program since July 19, 2026.

Iin aims for mitigation efforts to enable West Jakarta to achieve zero flood points during the upcoming rainy season.

Iin also requested the assistance of Satlinmas to help monitor waterways in their respective areas, particularly those illegally covered by buildings or parking areas.

Regarding the issue of mitigation, Iin emphasized that it is not solely about disasters caused by natural events, but also those triggered by human negligence, such as fires.

Iin emphasized that West Jakarta currently has the highest rate of fires in Jakarta. This situation is exacerbated by the scarcity of standalone hydrants due to limited land availability.

Iin hopes that fire mitigation measures will be strengthened, one way being to crack down on the use of substandard or illegal electrical installations.

"I have requested a re-inspection of electrical installations in small shops, commercial areas, and residential neighborhoods to prevent short circuits," she emphasized.

Head of West Jakarta Satpol PP, Herry Purnama explained this activity aims to strengthen inter-agency synergy and promote a humanistic approach, thereby encouraging the resolution of potential disturbances through educational, persuasive, and communicative means.

"As well as to accelerate the handling of public complaints and find concrete solutions to field-level obstacles through early detection and rapid response," he stated.
