Jakarta Announces Rp 1 Fare for Transjakarta, MRT, and LRT on August 17

Ready to celebrate Indonesia's Independence Day? The Jakarta government is making it easier and cheaper, to get around the city. On August 17, 2026, you can hop on the Transjakarta, MRT, or LRT for just Rp 1.

Jakarta Transportation Agency Head, Budi Awaluddin explained that this special fare aims to bring the joy of Independence Day to everyone while promoting a more sustainable way to travel.

“We want everyone to join the festivities. With the Rp 1 fare, residents can easily explore the city’s attractions or join local celebrations without worrying about travel costs,” he expressed, Thursday (8/13).

He further noted that the special fare is aimed at boosting public awareness and encouraging people to embrace public transportation as their primary mode of daily mobility.

According to him, a widespread shift to mass transit will help decrease the city's reliance on private vehicles and bolster Jakarta’s ongoing efforts to curb air pollution.

"Beyond being more convenient and affordable, using public transport collectively helps reduce private car usage and significantly lowers carbon emissions from the transportation sector," he explained.

The Rp 1 fare applies to Transjakarta’s BRT, Non-BRT, and Transjabodetabek routes. For MRT Jakarta, the rate covers all operational services, while the LRT Jakarta special fare is available for the Velodrome–Pegangsaan Dua route.

Commuters can pay the Rp 1 fare using various existing payment methods, including electronic money cards such as Mandiri E-Money, BCA Flazz, BNI TapCash, BRI Brizzi, JakLingko Card, KMT, and Jakcard. Digital payments via JakLingko and MyMRTJ apps are also fully supported.

Special services such as Mikrotrans, Transjakarta Cares, and other government-assigned transit services—as well as those entitled to free travel under Gubernatorial Regulation No. 133/2018—will remain at an Rp 0 rate as per their original terms.

"We hope this Rp 1 policy serves as a catalyst for the public to celebrate Independence Day with even more enthusiasm, while establishing public transport as the primary choice for navigating Jakarta,” he concluded.
