Draft Regional Regulations on Food and Environment to Serve as Foundation for Jakarta`s Development

The Jakarta City Council (DPRD) has approved the Draft Regional Regulation on the Implementation of the Food System and the Draft Regional Regulation on the Environmental Protection and Management Plan (RPPLH).

Establish a legal foundation

Chairman of Jakarta City Council, Suhud Alynudin said the draft regional regulation on the implementation of the food system will serve as the legal foundation for ensuring food availability and security in Jakarta. The regulation also manages various aspects of food, including halal certification.

"Through this draft regional regulation on food, we aim to establish a legal foundation ensuring that efforts are made to guarantee food security for Jakarta covering all aspects related to food, including halal certification and other matters," he said.

According to Suhud, the regulation also encourages various efforts to strengthen food security. One such effort is the development of urban farming.

Meanwhile, the draft regional regulation on the Environmental Protection and Management Plan (RPPLH) will serve as the legal foundation for steering Jakarta's development toward greater sustainability. Suhud added that the draft regulation is expected to ensure that all development activities take environmental aspects into account.

"This will serve as the legal foundation for Jakarta's future development, oriented towards sustainable development. It also ensures that, moving forward, Jakarta will be more comfortable and safer, with its environmental aspects effectively managed," he added.

Suhud hopes that once the two draft regional regulations are passed, the Jakarta Provincial Government will be able to effectively implement the mandates set forth in the regulations.

"Hopefully, with this legal basis, the executive branch will be able to carry out that mandate in the best possible manner," he hoped.
