Jakarta Assesses Needs and Coordinates Aid for NTT Earthquake Victims

The Jakarta Provincial Government is providing assistance for people affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Includes food and non-food supplies

Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Head Marulitua Sijabat said his agency fully supports the governor's directive for the Jakarta Provincial Government to provide assistance to affected residents.

Jakarta Prepares Aid for NTT Earthquake Victims

As part of its support, the Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Jakarta Korpri, has issued an appeal to all regional agencies and regional-owned enterprises to support earthquake victims in NTT through aid or donations.

"This support reflects solidarity and the spirit of mutual cooperation among regions. We want to ensure that Jakarta's assistance makes a tangible difference to people affected by the disaster," he said on Sunday (8/16).

On disaster response efforts, the Jakarta BPBD has coordinated with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the NTT BPBD to assess aid needs and obtain updates on response efforts in affected areas.

"Coordination is also being carried out to determine the most effective way to deliver the aid, including by air, so that it can be dispatched and reach people in need as soon as possible," he emphasized.

He explained that the humanitarian aid being prepared for earthquake-affected residents in NTT includes food and non-food supplies.

Food supplies include ready-to-eat meals, biscuits, and bottled water. Non-food supplies include folding mattresses, pillows, blankets, family kits, kids ware kits, and tarpaulins.

Marulitua noted that the aid is being prepared based on the basic needs of affected residents, particularly food, sleeping arrangements, family protection, and the needs of vulnerable groups such as children.

"The amount and types of aid will also be adjusted based on updated data from the NTT Provincial Government," he said.

He added that Jakarta BPBD has also coordinated with BNPB to ensure the aid is distributed effectively and integrated with the national disaster response mechanism.

Based on the coordination, a joint post involving the Indonesian Air Force, BNPB, and Jakarta BPBD at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport was activated on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026.

The arrangement is intended to ensure the handover and shipment of aid from the Jakarta Provincial Government are directly integrated into the national distribution channel prepared by BNPB for affected areas in NTT.

Marulitua said his agency would continue coordinating with BNPB, the NTT BPBD, and other relevant parties to ensure the type, quantity, destination, and distribution of aid match actual needs on the ground. The Jakarta BPBD is committed to responding quickly and ensuring assistance reaches those in need.

"Jakarta has a track record of providing humanitarian assistance when disasters strike other regions, and we will continue to uphold that spirit. When disasters affect our fellow citizens, solidarity and support from all regions are essential," he asserted.
