Six Islands Targeted in Massive Food Safety Sweep

The Seribu Islands Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Sub-agency (KPKP), conducted simultaneous food safety monitoring by sampling fresh products across six residential islands.

Seribu Islands KPKP Agency's Food Security Section, Helena Simarmata stated that the inspections targeted Panggang, Pari, Tidung, Kelapa, Harapan, and Untung Jawa islands.

According to her, the sampling was conducted to ensure that food circulating within the community is free from hazardous substances and fully complies with food safety standards.

"This activity includes sampling Fresh Food of Plant Origin (PSAT) and Fresh Food of Animal Origin (PSAH). This is our commitment to providing public protection and guaranteeing the health of our residents," she expressed, Monday (8/24).

From each island, personnel collected approximately 11 agricultural samples, two livestock samples, and three fishery samples.

To maintain the integrity of the results, all products were meticulously handled and specially packaged before being transported to the laboratory for testing.

"Every sample is managed and transported with extreme care using standardized protocols to preserve its original condition until it reaches the laboratory," she elaborated.

She noted that the Seribu Islands KPKP Sub-agency deployed seven personnel, supported by three crew members of the Kerapu Macan vessel. Once all samples were collected, the team immediately transported them to mainland Jakarta for further analysis.

"These samples have been sent to the Center for Production, Inspection, and Certification of Fishery Products (PPSHP) and the Center for Animal Health and Livestock Services (Pusyankeswannak) under the KPKP Agency," she explained.

Helena affirmed that food safety monitoring will remain a sustained effort throughout the Seribu Islands. The step aims to guarantee that all food commodities consumed by the public meet rigorous safety standards and are fit for consumption.

"We strive to ensure that all circulating food adheres to established regulations, providing the community with peace of mind and security in what they consume," she concluded.

In the meantime, Untung Jawa Island Urban Village Head, Muslim lauded the food oversight initiative led by the KPKP Sub-agency.

"Testing food samples is an essential measure to give our residents peace of mind regarding the safety of the food they consume," he concluded.

He hope that food monitoring and inspection activities would be conducted consistently, particularly in residential areas and public hubs.

"Hope these activities become a regular occurrence. Beyond providing protection to the public, this can also raise awareness among business owners to uphold food quality and safety standards," he concluded.
