Facilities at Kramat Jati Market to be Upgraded

The East Jakarta City administration has reaffirmed its commitment to upgrading facilities at the Kramat Jati Government-Designated Trading Site (Lokbin), aiming to elevate the standard of comfort for both vendors and patrons.

The administration is set to promptly address outstanding infrastructure needs; these enhancements range from installing ventilation systems to optimize airflow, to streamlining parking configurations and executing comprehensive desilting of the local drainage networks.

East Jakarta Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and SMEs Sub-agency (PPKUKM) Head, Andi Ahmad Refi identified the installation of ventilation fans as a primary objective. This addition is deemed essential, given the current interior conditions of the site which necessitate a more robust air-exchange system.

"We have formally acknowledged several requests from vendors regarding air circulation. Accordingly, we plan to outfit the facility with industrial fans to cultivate a more conducive and comfortable environment," he expressed, Wednesday (9/2).

He further elucidated that several parking alternatives are being orchestrated to ensure seamless accessibility for patrons. The proposed zones encompass the front and southern perimeters of the Lokbin, the social and public utility plots adjacent to Lippo Plaza Kramat Jati, and a northern site situated in front of the Bata outlet.

"We're also evaluating the Cililitan Lokbin as a potential overflow parking area, notwithstanding the logistical challenge posed by its considerable distance from the primary Kramat Jati site," he clarified.

He emphasized that the enhancement of onsite religious facilities remains a pivotal focus; consequently, the prayer hall (musala) is slated to be retrofitted with climate-control systems and premium carpeting.

"Regarding the hydraulic infrastructure within the Kramat Jati Lokbin complex, we'll do extensive desilting operations to remove accumulated sediment. This is designed to bolster water retention capacity and effectively mitigate any potential flood risks," he explained.

He went on to say that that Promotions for the Kramat Jati Lokbin facility will be ramped up. The East Jakarta Communications Sub-agency will use social media to inform the public that fish vendors from Jalan Raya Bogor have now officially moved to the new location.

"Regarding fiscal arrangements, vendor levies will be fully waived for an initial six-month grace period. Subsequently, a standardized levy by Rp 6,000 per day—amounting to Rp 180,000 per month—will be applicable, with payments processed directly through Bank Jakarta," he detailed.

He hoped that those facilities and promotions would attract more visitors and improve comfort for everyone.

"By providing a proper marketplace, we want to ensure vendors do not return to the streets and sidewalks, which disrupts public order and safety," he added.

The action above received appreciation from one of the vendors, Alvin (23).

"We're grateful to the Jakarta government and the Governor for providing this trading space at the Kramat Jati Lokbin. We hope the planned facilities will be completed soon," he concluded.
