South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency Head, Rizky Febriyanto stated that both road sections were selected due to the high volume of vehicles passing through daily. This condition has the potential to increase pollutant concentrations in those areas.

“Water mist spraying was conducted along Jalan HR Rasuna Said to Jalan Mampang Prapatan Raya, as the daily traffic volume is quite high,” he expressed, Friday (9/4).

He clarified that water misting is a measure to mitigate air pollution caused by heavy urban traffic. He noted, the fine water particles are designed to trap and reduce PM2.5 concentrations in the atmosphere. Additionally, the initiative seeks to improve the surroundings for commuters and residents in congested areas.

"The objective of misting along these busy corridors is to help decrease PM2.5 pollutant levels in the air," he added.

Rizky added that these efforts are not only intended to help reduce air pollution but also serve as a step toward creating healthier and more comfortable public spaces.

“This water misting is simultaneously aimed at creating healthier public spaces and making the urban atmosphere feel more comfortable for the community,” he stated.

He explained that the South Jakarta Environment Sub-agency utilized approximately 4,000 liters of clean water for the operation. The water was sprayed from the top of the vehicle as it traversed the targeted routes.

Water misting serves as a strategy to mitigate pollutants in regions experiencing heavy traffic congestion.

“Yesterday marked the initial run. In the future, he spraying schedule will be determined by field requirements and evaluation findings,” Aziz remarked.
