Dukcapil Dinilai Jadi Pintu Masuk Penataan Jakarta

Dukcapil Seen as Key to Better City Planning

The Jakarta City Council (DPRD) Commission A has stressed the importance of strengthening the Jakarta Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) Agency as a key part of efforts to better manage the capital.

Population data must be continuously updated

Commission A Chair Inggard Joshua said population data must be continuously updated to ensure various government policies, including social assistance, education, and healthcare programs, benefit the right people.

"That's why the data needs to be updated regularly. We have a very extensive social assistance program," Inggard said on Thursday (9/10).

Inggard also cautioned that social assistance programs must not encourage people to move to Jakarta. He said the government needs to ensure that existing residents do not lose their rights as the city's population continues to grow.

"We must not let this become a driver of urbanization. We must not let Jakarta's long-time residents miss out while people continue to flock to the city and we keep funding these programs," he said.

Beyond social programs, Inggard explained that valid population data is also important for supporting elections. He warned against discrepancies between ID card (KTP) data and residents' actual whereabouts, as they could be misused.

"We must not let KTPs be used as voting tools when there is no actual person behind them. That creates an imbalance, and it can also lead to money politics," he asserted.

Inggard further highlighted Dukcapil's strategic role in supporting Jakarta government programs. He said population data must be managed accurately to serve as a reference for other government agencies.

"Dukcapil is the entry point for all activities in Jakarta. Our hope, as Commission A, is that Dukcapil is not taken lightly. Everything related to the database must be clear," he emphasized.
