Sumenep Park Revitalization to Be Aligned with Gresik River Flow

The Central Jakarta Administration plans to revitalize Sumenep Park on Jalan Dukuh Atas, Menteng, in line with the management of the Gresik River to create a natural, green, and functional public space.

Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin said the Central Jakarta City Parks and Forestry (Tamhut) Sub-agency, together with other relevant sub-agencies, would prepare a master plan to harmonize Sumenep Park with the management of the Gresik River.

"We want residents and children to be able to enjoy a well-organized, natural park free from environmental problems after the revitalization," Arifin said on Friday (9/18).

Central Jakarta Tamhut Sub-agency Head Mila Ananda pointed out that the Sumenep Park revitalization is a priority program.

This year, or Phase X-1, an initial concept is being developed for the area from the entrance near Jalan Sudirman to the Car Free Day (CFD) area.

"Following the mayor's direction, we are working to develop a concept that aligns Sumenep Park with the Gresik River. The overall layout will not change drastically because the area stretches along the waterway, but it will be enhanced and equipped with additional facilities and infrastructure," she explained.

She also detailed that the main priority for physical work, scheduled to begin in 2027, will focus on revitalizing the bridge that serves as an icon of Sumenep Park.

"The bridge's structure and appearance will be enhanced, along with additional seating facilities to accommodate nearby office workers who want to take a break," she said.

She added that the pedestrian area will also be painted in colors that match the park's theme in coordination with the Public Works Sub-agency, although the road structure will remain unchanged.

"We are also coordinating with the Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency on plans to revitalize the retaining wall and the Water Body Cleaning Unit buildings, while adjusting the placement of several of its buildings to create a more harmonious overall look," she said.
