Rano Urges Safer, Smarter, and Fully Integrated Public Transit for Jakarta

Leading the 2026 National Transportation Day ceremony at the South Plaza of the National Monument (Monas) on Tuesday (9/22), Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno delivered a bold vision for the capital's transit network.

This serves as a vital reminder that safety isn't just about passing paperwork

Beyond reading the official address from the Transportation Ministry, Rano firmly declared that Jakarta’s public transport must become safer, more attractive, and seamlessly integrated.

"This serves as a vital reminder that safety isn't just about passing paperwork—it must be a living, breathing reality in our everyday transit operations," he expressed.

He stressed that transportation goes beyond physical vehicles and infrastructure; it acts as a lifeline connecting people to education, healthcare, employment, markets, and economic centers. This reflects the core theme of the observance: "Connecting Indonesia for a Better Future."

Aside that, he highlighted that September is being commemorated as Transportation Safety Month.

"This milestone must be the starting point for embedding a continuous, year-round safety culture," he explained.

Zeroing in on Jakarta, he demanded a transit system that is increasingly reliable, attractive, and connected.

"Intermodal integration is the key to faster, easier, and more efficient commutes from start to finish," he stated.

Before closing, Rano gave a heartfelt shoutout to the field crews.

"My deepest appreciation goes out to all frontline transportation workers—from those at terminals and train stations to ports and key transit hubs," he noted.
