East Jakarta Public Works Sub-agency Revitalizes Sidewalk on Jalan Haji Darip

The East Jakarta Public Works Sub-agency is revitalizing the sidewalk along Jalan Haji Darip, Cipinang Besar Utara, Jatinegara.

Head of the Sub-agency, Benhard Hutajulu said this approximately 1,175-meter project is carried out by two different vendors. The first segment, from the entrance of Cipinang Prison to the Shell gas station, is approximately 500 meters long. The second segment, from the front of the Shell gas station to the East Jakarta District Attorney's Office building, is approximately 675 meters long.

"This sidewalk revitalization is carried out because the condition of the old sidewalk was damaged, narrow and not friendly to people with disabilities," he said, Tuesday (9/22).

According to him, the revitalization is carried out because the area is close to office areas, Cipinang Prison, businesses, Transjakarta bus stops, and pedestrian bridges. Work began on September 14 and will last until December 18, 2026.

The agency has coordinated with the East Jakarta Traffic Police and Transportation Agency to allow public vehicles onto the Transjakarta lanes during the project. This is to minimize traffic congestion during the sidewalk revitalization.

The project implementer, Windu Wira Irawan, stated that the revitalized sidewalk in segment one is 500 meters long and approximately two meters wide. The sidewalk work also includes the construction of a water channel using 80x80 centimeter concrete U-ditches.

"The existing drainage channel was approximately 1.30 meters wide and still had an open top. During the revitalization, all drainage channels are closed and a control tank is installed. This resulted in a wider sidewalk than before," he stated.

Windu added that the sidewalk will use stamped concrete which is also equipped with guide tiles for the visually impaired and bollard barriers to prevent motorcycles from crossing the sidewalk.

They have also installed three large banners stating that vehicles can pass through the Transjakarta lane. Therefore, drivers are advised to exercise caution when passing through the area.

Meanwhile, Head of East Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency, Harlem Simanjuntak said his office has implemented traffic engineering in collaboration with the Traffic Police to allow public transportation to pass through the Transjakarta corridor while sidewalk revitalization work continues.

"While work is still ongoing, vehicles are allowed to pass on the Transjakarta route," he said.
