Sidewalks along Three North Jakarta Streets Undergo Revitalization

Sidewalks across three major stretches in Koja and Tanjung Priok are getting a major upgrade as the North Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency taps third-party contractors for the project.

North Jakarta Roads, Bridges, and Road Equipment Section Head, Libertus Sagala explained that the upgrades cover Jalan Lorong 104 and Jalan Melati in Koja, alongside Jalan Sunter Boulevard in Sunter Jaya, Tanjung Priok.

He detailed that the Jalan Sunter Boulevard project involves revitalizing roughly 400 meters of three-meter-wide sidewalks on both sides of the street, contracted to PT Duta Marga Persada.
Meanwhile, PT Gratia Bangun Persada is handling a 670-meter stretch of three-meter-wide sidewalks on Jalan Lorong 104. Over on Jalan Melati, PT Segara Mukti Abadi is upgrading a 250-meter section, also three meters wide.
"The entire rollout is being managed by third-party partners over a 90-day window, starting September 16 and wrapping up on December 14, 2026," he explained.
Libertus noted that the combined budget for the three projects hits roughly Rp 5.5 billion. The revitalized sidewalks feature decorative stamp concrete surfaces for an upgraded look.
Accessibility is also a priority, with yellow tactile sidewalk installed to assist pedestrians with visual impairments.
"We're also putting up 90-centimeter bollards along the paths to stop motorists from driving into areas meant exclusively for pedestrians," he added.
He pointed out that the project goes beyond fixing sidewalks, incorporating street right-sizing to adjust vehicle lane widths.
The move is designed to keep lane widths uniform from junction to end, ensuring every inch of available road space is used efficiently.
"Hopefully, this upgrade will make our streets more orderly while providing a much better experience for pedestrians," he stated.
