Fire in The Open Area on Jalan Rorotan IX Quickly Handled

Personnel from the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency quickly extinguished the fire that engulfed an empty plot of land full of piles of rubbish and weeds on Jalan Rorotan IX, RT 05/10, Cakung Timur Urban Village, Cakung District.

Head of the Fire and Rescue Division of Cakung District, Nyaman, stated that the fire was reported at around 10:55 AM. The exact cause of the fire is currently unknown.

"We deployed seven firetrucks with 35 personnel," he said, Thursday (10/1).

Nyaman explained that when officers arrived at the location, the fire had already grown large and no residents knew for sure where the flames started.

"The extinguishing process began at 11:07 AM. As of 1:30 PM, the cooling process was still underway," he explained.

According to him, firefighters faced several obstacles in the extinguishing process, including a lack of water sources near the site. Furthermore, the pile of garbage on the land is believed to have accumulated long ago, causing embers to remain at the bottom of the pile.

"We estimate the extinguishing and cooling process will take approximately two hours to complete. Therefore, the handling is expected to be completed around 3:30 PM," he stated.

Meanwhile, one of the local residents, Restu (35) said he saw black smoke rising from the empty land while he was at home.

"Residents attempted to extinguish the fire themselves, but their efforts were unsuccessful," he admitted.
