The Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf) hosted 20 delegates from the 2026 Indonesia International Book Fair (IIBF)—representing Turkey, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and India—on a familiarization trip (famtrip) to experience the beauty of Jakarta’s marine tourism at Cipir and Payung (Batumera) Islands in Seribu Islands.
More than just a tour, this trip was about forging global connections
This initiative is part of Disparekraf Jakarta’s support for the 2026 IIBF, slated to take place from September 30 to October 4, 2026, at the Assembly Hall & Lower Lobby of the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC).
Beyond participating in the book fair’s agenda, the delegates enjoyed a firsthand experience exploring the capital’s marine tourism destinations, which highlight the rich diversity of Jakarta’s travel attractions.
53 Participants Join Famtrip to Seribu IslandsAt Cipir Island, those delegates soaked in picturesque coastlines and sandy shores that feel worlds away from the city's hustle and bustle. Beyond the views, the island is steeped in history, giving visitors a chance to connect with the Seribu Islands’ fascinating heritage.
The journey then continued to Payung Island (Batumera), known for its serene, unspoiled marine appeal. Its open turquoise waters, tranquil coastline, and lush surroundings gave delegates a glimpse of a different side of Jakarta—a tropical getaway just a short journey from the heart of the metropolis.
Their visit to both islands served as a prime opportunity to promote the Seribu Islands to the global market as one of Jakarta’s top marine tourism destinations. To wrap up the experience, they were also presented with signature Jakarta tourism merchandise as part of the promotional campaign
Disparekraf Jakarta Head Andhika Permata emphasized the city's commitment to supporting world-class events while putting Jakarta’s top destinations in front of international travelers.
He noted that Jakarta is not just a host city for global book fairs—it is also the ultimate gateway to explore Indonesia’s vibrant natural and cultural wonders.
We want delegates to experience firsthand that Jakarta offers diverse destinations, including marine tourism in Seribu Islands. We hope they take home lasting, positive impressions from Cipir and Payung Islands and share these experiences with their networks back home,” he explained, Monday (10/5).
He hoped this collaboration between tourism, creative industries, and literature at 2026 IIBF would cement Jakarta's reputation as a creative, culture-rich, and friendly global hub for visitors worldwide.
“More than just a tour, this trip was about forging global connections and opening up exciting new doors to showcase Jakarta to the world,” he added.
Marketing Section Head for Disparekraf Jakarta Lucky Wulandari highlighted famtrips as one of the best ways to give industry leaders and global travelers a real taste of what the city has to offer.
She believes tourism promotion resonates deepest when people do not just read about a place, but actually immerse themselves in the destination.
“We want to show the world that Jakarta has the full package—vibrant culture, storied history, and tropical island getaways in Seribu Islands,” she shared.
Overseas Tourism Marketing Subgroup Head Ervienia Oryza, explained that hosting delegates from diverse nations unlocks significant opportunities for wider word-of-mouth marketing.
She hoped that the positive impressions carried home by the participants would translate into firsthand stories and recommendations across their global networks.
“When a destination becomes a personal experience, the potential for it to be shared across personal networks, communities, and digital platforms grows exponentially. This is one of our key strategies to expand international exposure for Jakarta’s tourism,” she added.
Notably, IIBF is an annual international book fair organized by the Indonesian Publishers Association (Ikapi). In 2026, IIBF enters its 46th edition with the theme Read Today, Lead Tomorrow. IIBF 2026 targets more than 300,000 visitors, participation from 25 countries, over 300 participants, and the staging of more than 200 literacy activities.
