Gubernur DKI Jakarta Resmikan Transformasi Kawasan Blok M Fase Ultimate 4

Blok M Set for Revamp to Become More Modern and Better Organized

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung unveiled the ultimate-phase design concept for the transformation of the Blok M area at Blok M Hall, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (10/6).

I really want Blok M to retain its spirit even as it is improved, developed, and revitalized

The area, which is being revitalized under a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) concept, is expected to be completed and operational by 2029.

Blok M Proposed as Jakarta’s First Low Emission Zone Pilot

Pramono stressed that although Blok M will be revitalized to become more modern, orderly, and well-organized, the area will not lose its core identity.

"I really want Blok M to retain its spirit even as it is improved, developed, and revitalized to become better, more modern, and better organized," Pramono emphasized.

He said Blok M has become a popular gathering place for young people, offering a variety of culinary options and spaces to interact. The area is also well connected to various public transportation services, including MRT, Transjakarta, and Transjabodetabek.

Pramono therefore called on MRT Jakarta and developer PT Intiland Development to preserve Blok M's core concept throughout the development and revitalization process.

"It should remain a lively place, a place where work never stops, a place connected to everything around the world, and a place that reflects the progress of young people as well as new cultural traditions," he added.

The governor expressed hope that the TOD-based revitalization of Blok M would provide broader benefits for the public. The Jakarta Provincial Government also plans to revitalize other areas, including Pasar Baru, Glodok, Pecinan, and Kota Tua.

He said improvements across various areas of Jakarta would help create a more orderly and better-organized city.

Meanwhile, PT MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat said the launch of the ultimate-phase design concept for the Blok M transformation is aimed at developing businesses and the TOD area through the management of Blok M Hub.

The revitalization will focus on five key transformations: a more modern and integrated terminal; mixed-use development; improved accessibility and integration between transport modes and different functions for pedestrians; transformation of the commercial destination; and greener, more active, and comfortable public open spaces.

"Once completed, the public open space will be five times larger than what we have today. In terms of the overall area, it will be ten times larger," he said.

The revitalization will be carried out in stages. The terminal, retail area, and podium are targeted for completion and operation in 2029, while the mixed-use development will be completed gradually in subsequent years.

Throughout the revitalization process, Tuhiyat assured that all tenants in the Blok M area would continue to operate.

"Before the groundbreaking, we will ensure that all 332 tenants go through a transition. We will provide a temporary location for them during the transition so they can continue operating," he noted.
