The North Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency has completed drainage revitalization at 10 locations to help prevent flooding, with work at nine more locations expected to be completed by December 2026.
Work has been carried out in stages since June through third-party contractors
North Jakarta SDA Sub-agency's Drainage Development and Improvement Section Head Boris Karlop Lumban Gaol said the projects were carriad out in response to proposals submitted by residents through the Development Planning Consultation Forum (Musrenbang) and recess session held by Jakarta City Council (DPRD) legislators.

Boris explained that the drainage channels were built using U-ditch concrete, with dimensions adjusted to site conditions, ranging from 40 by 40 centimeters to 100 by 100 centimeters.
In Tanjung Priok Sub-district, revitalization was carried out along the western side of Jalan Haji Mawar in Sunter Jaya Urban Village, covering 462.2 meters, and along Jalan Haji Amsir, covering 243.5 meters.
Drainage channels were also built along Jalan Warakas I Gang 21, Warakas Urban Village, spanning 229.8 meters, and Jalan Ganggeng III, RT 04/RW 01, Sungai Bambu Urban Village, spanning 417.6 meters.
In Cilincing Sub-district, the projects covered Jalan Kalibaru Barat 8, spanning 536.7 meters, and Jalan Kalibaru Barat 7, spanning 462.2 meters, both in Kalibaru Urban Village. Another drainage channel was revitalized along Jalan Green Garden I in Rorotan Urban Village, covering 651 meters.
In Koja Sub-district, revitalization was carried out along Jalan Walang Baru Raya and Jalan Walang Timur in Tugu Utara Urban Village, with a combined length of 1,035 meters. Work along Jalan Bendungan Melayu in Rawa Badak Selatan Urban Village covered 151.2 meters.
"Drainage channels were also revitalized in Kelapa Gading Sub-district, specifically along Jalan Tabanas and Jalan Wesel in Pegangsaan Dua Urban Village, covering a total of 262 meters," he added.
Boris said the nine remaining locations were spread across Penjaringan, Cilincing, Koja, and Tanjung Priok sub-districts. All projects are targeted for completion on schedule by the end of 2026.
"Based on technical assessments, the difference in drainage channel strength between structures with and without a working slab is around three percent. Structures without a working slab have undergone technical calculations and have been deemed safe to withstand vehicle loads," he explained.
He noted that the revitalization projects were funded through the 2026 budget, with planning carried out the previous year.
For 2027, the North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency is still determining priority locations, taking into account the level of need and the availability of funds in the City Budget (APBD).
"North Jakarta's geographical characteristics differ from those of other areas because it lies below sea level. Therefore, adequate budget support is needed to reduce the number of locations prone to flooding," he said.
