The Seribu Islands Regency administration is gearing up to build gas stations on Tidung, Karya, and Kelapa islands.
We have already surveyed five potential sites
The project aims to improve fuel accessibility, stabilize energy supplies, and slash operational expenses for the community.
Seribu Islands Regent Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan said recent field checks are evaluating technical feasibility and zoning for the planned fuel stations.
PPKUKM Inspects Fuel Pump Meters at Gas Stations Along Homecoming Routes“We have already surveyed five potential sites—three on Tidung Island, and one each on Kelapa and Karya islands,” he expressed, Thursday (10/15).
He explained that the inspection was conducted alongside representatives from PT Pertamina, PT Jakarta Utilitas Propertindo (JUP), related Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), as well as local urban village and sub-district administrations.
Based on interim evaluation results, Karya Island is assessed to have better readiness, particularly in terms of port infrastructure and logistics support.
“The survey is still active, and more islands may be added. It aims to deliver equal energy access for the entire archipelago,” he explained.
Fadjar pointed out that reliable, readily accessible fuel is a vital lifeline powering the islanders' economy.
“Beyond powering households and inter-island transit, those gas stations are expected to help fishermen slash their operating costs at sea and give local tourism a major boost,” he stated.
He targets the gas stations to become operational before Jakarta’s 500th anniversary commemoration in 2027.
“Hopefully, these facilities will create logistics cost efficiencies for residents and foster sustainable economic growth for coastal communities,” he hoped.
Meanwhile, South Seribu Islands Sub-district Head Muhammad Nur threw his support behind the project, noting that it delivers directly on residents' long-standing demands for easier fuel access.
“With all stakeholders working closely together, we hope these gas stations come to fruition so that islanders’ energy needs can finally be met more reliably,” he stressed.
