Film Industry: A New Driver for Jakarta’s Economic GrowthBy bolstering the local film ecosystem, Jakarta aims to attract top talent, investment, state-of-the-art facilities, film production, and international networking opportunities, while producing films that bring tangible benefits to Jakartans.
Pramono emphasized that Jakarta remains the hub of Indonesian cinema, driving nearly 80 percent of all film activity and offering superior production infrastructure compared to other regions.
Fully backing the push for city of cinema status, the governor encouraged domestic films to make their mark on the international stage, pointing to Jakarta’s track record of hosting global concerts and major film shoots.
"Hopefully, Jakarta will solidify its place as a cinema city and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with global leaders in film very soon," he hoped.
Aside that, Jakarta's robust infrastructure—spanning public transit and economic development—makes it an ideal national film hub.
Vice Governor Rano Karno highlighted that cinema attendance soared to nearly 122 million in 2025, with local productions drawing roughly 80 percent of audiences, or about 85 million moviegoers.
"These figures prove that Jakarta is firmly established as a cinema city," he noted.
Jointly hosted by Bank Indonesia and the Jakarta government, the Jakarta Film Summit 2026 brings together key movie industry leaders from around the globe.
Under the theme "Jakarta Rising: Shaping Indonesia’s Future Film Hub," the event takes place over three days, from October 20 to 22, 2026, attracting more than 500 delegates representing 10 nations.
Bank Indonesia's Jakarta Representative Office Head Iwan Setiawan highlighted that the event unites policymakers, financiers, investors, and filmmakers to build a robust film ecosystem driving new economic expansion.
"The joint Jakarta Film Summit and Jakarta Economic Forum 2026 places cinema at the center of Jakarta's broader creative economy," he explained.
He added that the film industry carries a broad value chain—from scriptwriting and production to post-production and distribution—all of which stimulate growth for local MSMEs and service vendors.
