Rano explained that creative industry professionals had gathered in Jakarta this week for the 2026 Jakarta Film Summit to discuss how the creative economy could grow and become a key driver of Indonesia's economic growth.
The summit, held on October 20-21, 2026, highlighted Jakarta's potential as a film production destination through visits to various filming locations arranged by the Jakarta Film Commission.
It also brought industry professionals together to discuss ways to strengthen Jakarta's film ecosystem, including simplifying permits, easing production processes, encouraging more filming in the city, opening up financing and investment opportunities, and tackling film distribution challenges.
On Wednesday evening (10/21), Rano also attended the opening of Jakarta Film Week 2026, which features 157 films from 59 countries. The festival also offers masterclasses, including one led by legendary Hong Kong action star Sammo Hung.
"I want to reaffirm Jakarta's commitment to developing its film industry. We also plan to introduce incentives to ensure its sustainability, including discounts on tickets for Indonesian films and support for film promotion and distribution," he said.
Rano noted that the Indonesian ambassador to the United States, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, and representatives of MPA Indonesia and MPA in the United States had agreed to work together to develop Jakarta's film industry ecosystem.
"This initiative aims to establish Jakarta as a city of cinema and a future film hub, at least in Asia," he added.
