Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is targeting an overall championship for Jakarta at the 2028 National Sports Week (PON), with aquatics expected to play a key role in achieving that goal, following its contribution to Jakarta's medal tally at the 2024 PON.
Aquatics is one of my main hopes for securing the overall championship at the next PON
Pramono made the remarks during the inauguration of the Jakarta Aquatics Provincial Board for the 2026–2030 term at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday (10/29).

He stressed that the Jakarta Provincial Government would provide full support for athlete development and preparations across sports ahead of the 2028 PON. He also expressed high hopes for aquatics to help boost the city's medal tally.
"Aquatics is one of my main hopes for securing the overall championship at the next PON," he added.
Pramono noted that Jakarta was ready to support the 2028 PON alongside West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Jakarta, he added, was willing to host competitions in sports for which facilities were unavailable or inadequate in the two provinces.
He said making use of Jakarta's existing sports facilities could help avoid the construction of new infrastructure that might not be used optimally after the sporting event ended.
Pramono expressed hope that the newly appointed board members would strengthen athletes development and sustain the achievements.
"If any of the newly appointed board members need support from the Jakarta Provincial Government, please coordinate with the Head of the Youth and Sports Agency. I will provide full support," he said.
