East Jakarta on Dengue Alert as Rainy Season Arrives

As the rainy season commences, residents of East Jakarta are urged to remain on high alert regarding the transmission risks of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). Rising precipitation levels frequently result in standing water pools, providing ideal breeding sites for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

We all need to pitch in with prevention and control to keep dengue numbers

East Jakarta Health Sub-agency Head Arief Wahyudhy said preventing dengue requires regular action through the mosquito eradication drive (PSN) at least twice a week.

He also called on every household to assign an independent larva hunter (Jumantik) to make sure mosquitoes have no place to breed at home.

Dengue Cases Decline in Jakarta as Prevention Efforts Intensify

"It’s starting to rain a lot more often now. We all need to pitch in with prevention and control to keep dengue numbers from climbing again," he expressed, Tuesday (11/3).

He stressed that tackling dengue cannot be done by the government alone. Active public participation is vital to wiping out mosquito nests and larvae right at the household level.

"We’re constantly educating the community to boost awareness and get residents involved in stopping dengue from spreading," he noted.

He mentioned that steps being stepped up include the "One House, One Larva Monitor" program, the 3M Plus mosquito eradication campaign, and regular community workshops on dengue prevention.

Arief added that the Larva-Free Village program could also be a blueprint for other neighborhoods to get residents involved.

"Through joint action and keeping our neighborhoods clean, we hope to curb dengue transmission—and ideally bring it down to zero cases," he noted.

He reported that five people in East Jakarta died from dengue between January and October 2026. Because of this, he urged residents to check anywhere water might gather, especially now that it rains more often.

Inspections should be done regularly across vacant lots, backyards, AC drip buckets, pet water dishes, dispensers, and any containers where mosquito larvae could thrive.

"By staying proactive and keeping up with regular PSN routines, we can all work together to stop dengue cases from climbing during the rainy season," he concluded.
