Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung inspected the construction of the Permata Buana segment of the Angke River embankment in Kembangan, West Jakarta, Tuesday (11/3). This infrastructure development aims to control flooding in the Angke River watershed in Kembangan Utara Urban Village.
The longest and last flooding
Pramono explained that this area is always affected by flooding because topographically it is at the lowest point compared to other areas.
Cimanggis Reservoir Upgraded to Boost Flood Mitigation, Public Spaces"This is the segment that always experiences the longest and last flooding. Because the basin is at the very bottom," said Pramono.
The construction of the embankment on the Permata Buana segment of the Angke River is part of the JakTirta Project. Construction of the 2,057-km embankment has reached 90 percent completion and is divided into four segments.
"Of the 2,057 kilometers, there are four segments. It is now 90 percent complete," he added.
Although the potential for flooding remains, he believes the water level and volume will decrease. Therefore, in addition to building embankments on the Angke River, Pramono also asked his ranks to strengthen flood control infrastructure in West Jakarta by increasing the construction of reservoirs.
The construction of reservoirs is intended to increase the water catchment area, thereby reducing the potential for flooding in surrounding areas during heavy rainfall. Furthermore, he noted that the number of reservoirs in West Jakarta is currently critically inadequate.
"I agreed to build a reservoir to increase the catchment area. I'm sure relying solely on existing infrastructure won't be enough," he emphasized.
