By the third day of the clearance operation, 48 semi-permanent structures along the railway tracks in Kampung Bahari, Tanjung Priok Urban Village, North Jakarta, had been demolished. The North Jakarta Administration expects the entire process to take about a week.
To restore the railway corridor to its proper function
The operation followed a drug raid in the area and covers the railway corridor from sections A5 to A11. Around 400 joint personnel have been deployed from the TNI, Polri, Satpol PP, KAI, PLN, and several North Jakarta Administration agencies.
Illegal Buildings Under the China Town Bridge RemovedNorth Jakarta Secretary's Assistant for Government Affairs Muhammad Andri said the structures were being cleared in stages, with multiple agencies working together to ensure the operation was conducted in an orderly, safe, and controlled manner.
"The clearance is intended to restore the railway corridor to its proper function and make the surrounding area safer and more orderly for residents," he said on Thursday (11/5).
Andri explained that the demolition work was supported by two excavators belonging to KAI and the North Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency. Railway transport was also being used to carry demolition debris to the A2 area.
"This support is needed to speed up the demolition of the structures and clear the area of the remaining debris," he added.
Meanwhile, Tanjung Priok Sub-district Head Samsul Rizal Khadafi reported that 22 more structures had been demolished on the third day of the clearance.
"That brings the total number of structures cleared since the first day to 48," he said.
He noted that the operation had initially faced objections from some residents who were still seeking certainty from KAI regarding relocation arrangements. However, the clearance had generally proceeded safely and smoothly.
"KAI has issued warning letters to residents who are still occupying the railway area, giving them five days to leave," he said.
