Fire Destroys Tens of Furniture Warehouses in Pondok Bambu

Fire gutted 20 wood and furniture warehouses on Jl Gotong Royong, RT 02/02 Pondok Bambu, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, Monday (8/8), at around 7 AM. Due to flammable materials, the local citizens had difficulties to put out the flames.

Locals are still trying to put out the flames using available tool. The fire continues to grow and there are several explosions which allegedly came from the drum containing liquid thinners or other chemical substances.

Tens of Home in Muara Baru Burnt

Andi (37), a local citizen disclosed, the burned building belongs to a furniture craftsman. This building is generally for wood storage, workshop furniture, cupboards and mild steel up, storefront. 

"Fire destroys tens of wood and furniture warehouses. It is similar to another fire three years ago. But the most worst is today," he told.

Section Head of Operation for East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-dept, Gatot Sulaiman disclosed, the alleged cause is due to electricity short-circuit. "We send 19 fire trucks to the scene," he stated.

Neneng (52), one of furniture warehouse owners were shocked when she knew the incident. Even she also stayed in the warehouse and knowing this incident after receiving a call from her partner at the scene.

"I know the news from my friend. When arriving here, fire has destroyed my warehouse," said Neneng while crying.
