August, New DPRD Members Inducted

The Jakarta General Commission (KPU) has set 106 legislative candidates to be the members of Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) for period 2014-2019. Their induction and oath-taking will be conducted in upcoming August.

“We have completed the process of votes counting and legislative council stipulation. The induction will be held in upcoming August,” stated Head of Jakarta KPU, Sumarno, Tuesday (5/13).

According to Sumarno, the amount of seats for the 2014-2019 DPRD increases 12 seats, from initially 94 seats becomes 106 seats. It happens because there is an increase in Jakarta’s population.
“In accordance to Law No. 8/2013 about Election, province DPRD members are 100 people at the most for population between 9-10 million,” he explained.
As reported earlier, based on Jakarta KPU plenary meeting results last night, the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) successfully collects 28 out of 106 seats, followed by Gerindra with 15 seats, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) 11 seats, Hanura Party, United Development Party (PPP), and Democratic Party 10 seats each, Golkar Party 9 seats, PKB 6 seats, Nasdem 5 seats, and PAN 2 seats. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI) and Crescent Star Party (PBB) do not get seat at all because their votes are less than 3.5 percent.
