Smoking in Office Area, Civil Servant's TKD will Be Cut

To protect passive smokers in its office, North Jakarta Administration will take strict action by cutting the Regional Performance Allowance (TKD) of civil servants who were caught smoking in the office.

Violation in (non) smoking area is getting worrying

Even so, North Jakarta City Secretary, Junaedi, stated this policy is compliance with Governor Regulation No. 50/2012 on Guidelines for Implementation, Supervision, and Enforcement in Smoking Area. However, this plan is still under study and to be applied from the smallest regional working units (SKPD) first.

Violation in (non) smoking area is getting worrying,” said Junaedi who often, Tuesday (5/13).

No One Caught Smoking at City Hall

According to Junaedi, he has received many complaints from passive smokers who were disturbed by the cigarette smoke from active smokers around the office. Moreover, he also urged state apparatus not to involve cigarette companies as sponsors in any activities or events. Thus, the number of active smokers could be reduced.

Toni Yudianto, staff of North Jakarta Communication, Informatics, and Public Relations Sub-Department, admitted that he agrees with this policy. Besides harming the health, cigarette smoke in air-conditioned room has a harmful impact.

“I agree (with the policy), because cigarette smoke in air-conditioned room is not good,” he expressed.
