Kebayoran Lama Street Vendors Relocation Hampered

The relocation plan of street vendors in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, which has been planned since 2013, is still hampered until now. Whereas, the relocation is very urgent to be conducted because those street vendors are causing traffic congestion.

Several locations which have been chosen to be the relocation places are still not acquitted until now. This condition makes thousands of street vendors open stalls on roadsides.
“The continuation of land acquisition on Jalan Kramat Kebayoran Lama is also still unclear. Because the land is under the authority of Jakarta Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Trade (KUMKP) Department, we only met them with the landowner,” said Head of Kebayoran Lama Sub-District, Agus Irwanto, Thursday (5/15).

“There are 440 empty kiosks in Bata Putih Market, and the mayor asks for the street vendors selling fruits to be placed there. It turns out that there are only 30 kiosks left for fruits zone from 300 fruits sellers we recorded,” he uttered.
Not that only, Irwanto continued, South Jakarta Administration is currently holding discussion with the landowners on Jalan Ciledug Raya, Cipulir, precisely in front of Lemigas office. The location has more than one hectare area which might be used for temporary relocation place.

But doe to there is no land availability until now, many street vendors are still selling on roadsides and under Kebayoran Lama Flyover. For temporary, control is conducted every morning along that road.
“For the mean time, to smooth the traffic, we control the street vendors who are still selling on roadsides at 6 AM until 12 PM,” told Irwanto.
