River and channel normalization conducted by Jakarta Provincial Government starts to produce something. Nowadays, many rivers in Jakarta are free of trash.
In 2014, the river condition was terrible. But it started to get cleaner since 2015
One of the rivers is Utan Kayu at Jalan Cempaka Putih Barat, Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta.
Mardani (41), one of local residents, admitted river condition is getting cleaner. Previously, trash piled up the river.
Trash Cleaned from Pesanggrahan River“In 2014, the river condition was terrible. But it started to get cleaner since 2015. Sheet pile has been also installed there,” he said, Wednesday (9/28).
He added that three personnel always monitor and clean the river.
Meanwhile, Junjungan Sihombing, Head Unit of Cleanliness Management (UPK) of Water Body for Jakarta Dept. of City Cleanliness, explained 50 personnel are deployed for seven spots along the river.
“Seven to eight personnel are deployed for one spot. They usually transported two meter cubics of waste per day,” he stated.
