Kebon Jeruk Urban Village to Harvest 8 Tons of Orange

The efforts to make its area as one of orange fruit production centers keep conducted by the administration of Kebon Jeruk Urban Village, Kebon Jeruk Sub-District, West Jakarta. Not long ago, as many as 4,000 orange seeds, which came from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), were planted in various areas of Kebon Jeruk Urban Village, such as in Kebon Jeruk Military Regional Command (Kodam), Kebon Jeruk Police Sector Park, and DPR Complex.

Thus, Kebon Jeruk Urban Village would produce eight tons of orange fruits during main harvest

Vegetable Farmers in West Jakarta Experiencing Harvest Failure

Kebon Jeruk Urban Village Secretary, Ahmad Mawardi, said those 4,000 orange seeds consist of three varieties, namely limes, lemons, and kip oranges, with a tree could produce up to two kilograms for single harvest. “Thus, Kebon Jeruk Urban Village would produce eight tons of orange fruits during main harvest,” he stated, Tuesday (5/27).

Later, some of the harvest result of orange fruits will be given to guided small and medium business (UKM) in RT 12/4 Kebon Jeruk which managed by Mrs. Subagio as the owner of ‘Jamilo’ (lime ginger) business, and some others to the residents.

Mawardi hopes Kebon Jeruk Urban Village could be an agro tourism area to introduce many kinds of oranges to the citizens. “But, we’re constrained by land availability. Hopefully there would be land acquisition for agro tourism area,” he expressed.

As known, the program to add green open space (RTH) is also followed by other areas in West Jakarta, such as Kemanggisan Urban Village that starts again to plant mangosteen fruit, Kelapadua Urban Village that plants coconut trees, and Kapuk Urban Village plants kapok trees.
