Central Govt Helps City Govt Normalizes Pesanggrahan River

To overcome flood that often threatens the capital city residents, Jakarta Provincial Government and Public Works Ministry are working together in the Pesanggrahan River normalization program.

In this cooperation, Jakarta Governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said that city government will only work on land acquisition, which already started a year ago. Meanwhile, Public Works Ministry, in particular the Directorate General of Water Resources, will work on the physical works.
“Our part is the land acquisition, while Mr. Director General or Public Works Ministry will work on the physical, construction, widening, and the deepening works,” said Jokowi after the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing of Pesanggrahan River normalization, at City Hall, Friday (5/30).

However, the land acquisition still has to go through administration process. Jokowi hopes all works could be finished before rainy season comes. So when rain pours, some areas are expected would not be inundated again.
“There are 22 kilometers to be working on. We want to make it fast, (the work) must be finished before rainy season. Working on it day and night,” he asserted.
According to Jokowi, land acquisition and physical construction will be done at the same time. He admitted there is no problem in the land acquisition process. Although some people refused their lands to be acquisitioned, the matter can be solved well at the end.
Meanwhile, Public Works Ministry Water Resources Director General, Mohammad Hasan, disclosed that the land acquisition completion has reached 50 percent or 50 hectares. For this project, Public Works Ministry allocates Rp 250 billion. However, the budget will also be used to normalize Sunter River and Angke River, instead of just for Pesanggrahan River normalization work.
“For land acquisition, the budget prepared by Jakarta Provincial Government is around Rp 250 billion. It cannot be disbursed at once since there are negotiation phases as regulated by the law,” he uttered.
