700 Recondition Handphones Seized

Beware of buying mobile phone because the one you buy could be not genuine, rather reconditioned goods that are reassembled as revealed by North Jakarta Police in Taman Grisenda, Block C 1/7, Kapuk, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, some time ago. In further development, the police also seized 700 smartphone that have been illegally assembled for distribution to a number of stores across Indonesia.

North Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal said his party seized 700 smartphone from famous brands such as, Samsung, Blackberry, and Iphone. These goods are used goods which are reassembled to be sold again with a new price.

"We've established 2 persons initials SU and HE as suspects. While the other two, A and E are currently being chased," he said, Saturday (5/31).

According to Iqbal, the suspects violate Article 24 paragraph 1 No 5/1984 on Industry or Article 62 paragraph 1 UURI No. 8/1999 on Consumer Protection or Article 52 in conjunction with Article 32 paragraph 1 UURI No 36/1999 on Consumer Protection with the threat of imprisonment for a maximum of 5 years.

"At first glance, there is no different from the original hand phone, because all of them look the same. It is sold with the new price in the market," Iqbal explained.
