Council Warns of Illegal Levies in Public Cemeteries

A number of cases of alleged illegal levies (pungli) in public cemeteries (TPU) in Jakarta are getting serious response from Jakarta Legislative (DPRD). The council said, the grave brokering practice must be eradicated.

"The case like this is still attacking people who want to bury relatives who have died," said Pandapotan Sinaga, a Member of Jakarta DPRD Commission D, Friday (1/26).

He added, related unit should coordinate with local police to hold a raid towards grave broker.

Saber Pungli Team Formed in Central Jakarta

"TPU officer don't ever be afraid to make a report if you see the case in the field," he expressed.  

To anticipate the case, locals who want to conduct burial to process funeral administration first through legal service in TPU and local urban village offices.
