Utan Kayu River will Be Normalized

Utan Kayu River on Jl. Galur Sari Timur, South Utan Kayu Urban Village, Matraman, East Jakarta, will be normalized. All this time, water from this river usually overflows and triggers inundation in several areas.

Vice City Governor, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, said his side already observing the location to check river's condition. The river will be deepened to hold water.
"Due to shallow condition, it quickly becomes full. Building sheet pile will take long time, thus we deepening it," he said, Monday (2/27).
Krukut River Normalization will Overcome Floods in KemangAfter deepening it, he added that his side will build waste water management installation (IPAL) in several slaughterhouse (RPH)s around the location. Thus, water from RPH will not contaminate river or spread smell.
Meanwhile, East Jakarta Water Resources Sub-dept. Head, Yose Rizal, stated his side will immediately do the normalization. According to plan, deepening will be done in the center of river for 2 meters wide.
"Total wide is about 6 meters, and we just deepening the center part. We will deepening around 1 to 1.5 meters," he stated.
He explained the deepening is not done in all parts because they are worried the retaining wall will be damaged. While related to IPAL construction, his side will coordinate with Water Resources Department.
"For normalization, we will deploy 2 heavy equipment units. While for IPAL, we will coordinate with department," he closed.
