7 Used Goods Collecting Stalls and 3 Motorcycles Burnt

Around 70 stalls at RT 05/07, Jl. Kejaksaan, Pondok Bambu, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta on Monday (3/13) burnt around 6.20 A.M.

At first, it was just a usual smoke, thus people thought somebody burns the garbage.

Provisional estimates the fire is caused by short circuit. No fatalities but 3 motorcycles that owned by used good collectors were burnt.

From information, fire happened when used good collectors in the middle of sorting the waste materials in temporary landfill (TPS) on Jl. Kejaksaan. Suddenly, there is puff of smoke from one of the raised bed.

Jamal (37), local people, said at first he thought a person who burns the trash. But after saw it clearly, it turns out to be stalls and raised bed that owned by used goods collectors which burnt and it is exactly located behind Pondok Bambu TPS.

"At first, it was just a usual smoke, thus people thought somebody burns the garbage. But after a long time, the fire got large and burned collecting stalls," he said.

Pondok Bambu Urban Village Head, Syahrul Munir, said there are around 70 illegal stalls were burned. All of them occupied by used goods collector in Pondok Bambu TPS for more than 5 years.

"Every morning the collectors always sorting the garbage from TPS. Never burn garbage in here," he stated.

Meanwhile, East Jakarta Rescue and Fire Handling Sub-dept. Operational Division Head, Gatot Sulaiman, added that his side deployed 12 fire trucks to extinguish the fire.

"We deployed 12 fire trucks and in around 1 hour we succeed extinguishing the fire," he closed.
